EDIT SHEET
Review of
footage: Which
sequences are you most pleased with? Why? What went well on the shoot? Do you
need to reshoot anything?
The sequence I am most
pleased with is the one take shot of Alex singing to the camera. The shot Is
perfectly lip synced so it looks really good. Everyone worked well on shoot and
followed the director’s instructions when filming the one take. This was
important as if anyone messed up by walking back into the shot then we would
have had to reshoot it. We originally did the shot in multiple cut up clips. These
clips did not work as well and did not sync up. We then decided to reshoot it
in one take as it would look better as a one take and be easier to sync it up
with the lip sync.
Initial edit
structure: How do you
plan to structure the video? How will you mix performance and narrative?
Outline your initial ideas
The video will have feature the performer singing whilst
others drink around him, this will be the main backing of the video. The video
will then have shots and clips from other locations which will follow a
narrative where the performer is drinking and progressively through the video
he is affected more and more by the alcohol. The story of the video follows the
performer who has a drinking problem. The character progressively drinks more
and more and gets caught by his dad. In the performance section of the video
everyone around him is drinking and one by one they disappear suggesting that
they have passed away due to drinking too much. At the end of the video the
only character left is the performer.
Paper edit: Using the
time line below map out how you intend to edit the video, remember to be
specific about what takes you will use e.g close-up of lead
singer
The video starts with an animated title card for 7 seconds
which starts with a fade in and a fade to black. An audio clip of a field plays
in the background as it fades to a mid-shot of a group of people standing
around drinking. After another 7 seconds, it cuts to a close up of someone
passing the performer the vodka bottle. The performer declines and puts his
headphones on. It then cuts to a shot of the sky as the music begins to play. After
the sky shot it cuts to a mid-shot of the performer singing to the camera,
after 8 seconds it cuts to a shot of the performer sitting on some steps with a
vodka bottle in his hand. This shot lasts 2 seconds before cutting back to the
footage of the performer singing. It then cuts to the performer drinking on the
stairs. It then cuts to the main video of the performer singing. After 5 seconds,
it cuts to a shot of a car driving which is cut to the beat. It then reverts
back to the one take shot and then cuts to another close up of the artist
drinking the vodka. After cutting to the one take shot of the performer singing
again it cuts to a long shot of the car pulling into a parking spot. It quickly
cuts to the one-take, then to a shot of the performer drinking whilst walking
through a forest. The one take resumes then it cuts to a close up of one of the
members of the circle drinking. It then continues the one take, then cuts to a
mid-shot of the performer and his father in the car arguing. This shot lasts
for 7 seconds before cutting back to the one take where the performer is
dancing and singing. It then cuts to the performer walking past a wall which he
leans on to take a swig of his vodka. It then cuts back to the one takes where
2 people have disappeared around the circle. The performer continues to sing
and dance around the people left. It then cuts to a mid-shot of the car as the
performer gets out and continues to argue with the dad before storming off. It
quickly cuts back to the group of people and performer before cutting to the
performer drinking on his own in a room. After this it cuts to the one-take
then to a close up of someone from the circle drinking. As the beat drops, the
screen distorts and clips roll across the screen. As the song goes into slow
motion the clips rolling across the screen goes in slow motion. As the guitar comes
in on the song, it cuts to a shot of the performer lifting a vodka bottle whilst
someone calls him. It then cuts back to the performer dancing. The clip moves
across the screen and the colour distorts with each time the shot rotates back
to the start. As the song returns to normal, all the effects stop and it
returns to normal. It then cuts to a close up of the performer dead in a chair,
then cuts back, then cuts to a shot of the bottle of vodka dropping out of his
hand. The song fades out as the performer takes out his headphones and notices
no one is around him. He then picks up the bottle and the shot fades away.

When we filmed the shots with the lip syncing we did it all in one take. This was to ensure that it was perfectly synced up with the music. We played the song whilst filming so that the performer knew what part of the song he was singing. When syncing the clips together i listened out for when the music started playing in the clip and when the audio clip of the song began. I then deleted the original audio from the clip and joined the songs audio to the clip so that it was easier to cut it up.
There are some parts of the song which link to what is being shown on screen. For example theres a lot parts in the music video were the performer sings about never being sober and he is then shown the shot after drinking from a vodka bottle.
When editing the video I added effects and cut to the beat. This made the video more enjoyable to watch and made the song and video both show they are linked even more. It also made the video more interesting and not boring to watch.
